Youth sports injuries continue to rise because of the growing youth sports industry and increase in specialization. These injuries can be decreased by incorporating strength training into training plans and making injury prevention courses mandatory for youth and high school coaches.  

Main Ideas:

Youth Sports

Coaches and parents in the youth sports industry have made the leagues almost professional. The industry has grown by 55% since 2010.

Specialization

Youth athletes are now specializing in one sport and only focusing on that one sport, which increases their chances of injuries.

Strength training should be an essential part to all practices and will help the athletes strengthen the muscles they use everyday at practice.

There are many injury prevention programs and injury prevention program curriculums available free to coaches. For example, the fifa 11+. 

Plan Of Action

1. Hire certified coaches and athletic trainers to create injury prevention programs

2. Have professional development days for coaches so they can get trained 

3. Incorporate strength training into each sport teams practice schedule
